Our research goal is to break down the boundaries between physics and biology. Nanoscale properties of biological materials become more and more important to understand and control biological phenomena. We believe that our expertises, studies for the interaction of quanta and biological materials in nanoscale, provide useful and unprecedented ways to understand the nano-bio interface.

We report a triboelectric nanogenerator to harvest energy from biomechanical motions. Using silk protein, we can make the nanogenerator activating from the skin-contact and having high efficiency. This device would be useful for energy sources in healthcare devices. 


Our paper published in the Annalen der Physik is recognized as a top 20 most read paper. In the paper, we report a new way to induce single-mode DFB lasing from any arbitrary gain media. 

We report a stretchable and biocompatible 3D photonic crystal using silk protein. This work was published in the PNAS. The silk hydrogel inverse opal could be applied as the ocular prosthesis for better vision.
